These vehicles race in Sports Car Club of America’s FB series and are powered by 1,000cc motorcycle engines. The SCCA also handles Formula 3 and Formula 4 races in the U.S. Lastly, there’s Karting, where racers go around small courses in ultra-light, incredibly powerful, and specialized karts. Car racing is a global phenomenon with races being held around the world at a series of historic race tracks.

Since 1981, Audi Sport has stood for “Vorsprung durch Technik” in motorsport. The 2022 programme consists of marathon off-road rallying, including the Dakar Rally, and customer racing, as well as preparing for Le Mans 2023. Drag Race

The 1972 and 1973 model Eagle Indy cars are often confused. AAR continued to produce 1972 model cars for customers in early 1973, but also built four cars to a revised 1973 specification for their own in-house team. The 1974 season marked a major change in F1, with an influx of new teams and a much more evenly-matched field following Jackie Stewart's retirement. Emerson Fittipaldi narrowly beat Clay Regazzoni and Jody Scheckter to the title. The worst accident in racing history is the 1955 Le Mans disaster, where more than 80 people died, including the French driver Pierre Levegh. Five For Racing

Four years later it metamorphosed into something utterly outrageous with carbon Kevlar bodywork and over 500bhp. Twin rear wheels are where it’s at, or at least they were in the late Thirties when Auto Union’s GP masterpiece turned its hand to hillclimbing. Hans Stuck was all but unbeatable in the mid-engined Type C. And we love their machines – they are the prism through which we see the sport, the focal point of our passion and excitement.

Unlike other race cars on this list, there’s little that differentiates the vehicles, so there’s plenty of hard competition between drivers. Racing has always played a large role in the automotive industry. Automakers love to boast about racing wins, competing in specific series, and all of their sponsorships.

Beyond being a sport where the best drivers and teams are pitted against one another, modern racing is equally as competitive on the tech front. Car racing has evolved to be so much more than just watching fast cars drive around a track, so we have put together this list of all the major types of auto racing that you can watch on TV and even take part in. In early racing, in both Europe and the United States, competing race cars were usually prototypes of the following year’s models. Wings and canards channel the airflow in the most efficient way to get the least amount of drag from the car. It is experimentally proven that downforce is gained and the vehicles handling is considerably changed when aerodynamic wings on the front and rear of the vehicle are installed. In auto racing, the racing setup or car setup is the set of adjustments made to the vehicle to optimize its behaviour (performance, handling, reliability, etc.). Adjustments can occur in suspensions, brakes, transmissions, engines, tires, and many others.
